Arbor Housing and Development Cuts Ribbon for
Affordable Housing in Williamsport

Williamsport- Arbor Housing and Development held a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on Friday to commemorate the opening of the Memorial Homes complex. The 40-unit complex is the first phase of a three-phase redevelopment of the former Brodart Warehouse property on Memorial Avenue in Williamsport. Phase-two will consist of the construction of townhomes, and phase-three will be the construction of single-family homes by the local Habitat for Humanity. Memorial Homes will have a ripple effect on the Williamsport community. Residents will have housing that is safe and affordable and the community will see $115,000 in annual real estate taxes to the county, City of Williamsport, and the Williamsport Area School District.

Arbor Housing and Development is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization located in Corning, NY with numerous low-income housing complexes located throughout upstate New York. Memorial Homes is the first project that Arbor will be managing outside the state of New York. Jeff Eaton, President/CEO of Arbor Housing and Development, stated “Memorial Homes shows how collaborations with private, public and government organizations can come together to create incredible opportunities for communities like Williamsport. We are pleased to be the managing partner in giving these residents a safe and affordable place to call home.”

The complex means more than just housing for some. Marie Fye, the first resident of Memorial Homes, had lived across the street from the former Brodart facility for 22 years. Fye raised her children, and even worked at the former Brodart facility. “I knew I wanted to live here; I love this place. They treat you like family”, stated Fye regarding the new Memorial Homes complex.

"Memorial Homes is a beautiful housing development. It exemplifies affordable housing at its best-turning blight into light, and providing a new lease on life for people like Marie. It also exemplifies the transformative impact that Arbor Housing and Development has throughout the region in bringing opportunity to people and communities. Congratulations to Arbor and all the partners involved in Memorial Homes" said Deborah Boatright, Northeast Regional Vice-President, NeighborWorks America.

Joining Arbor, and Deborah at the ceremony were Gabriel J. Campana, Williamsport Mayor; Jeff Rauff, Lycoming County Commissioner; Jeff C. Wheeland, State Representative; Gene Yaw, State Senator; Brian Hudson, PHFA Executive Director and CEO, and P. Christopher Dirr, Vice President of Development, NRP Group, LLC.
